Time to change your tyres!
Tyres are of course, a driver's connection with the road but they can become a liability on wet roads if they are not checked regularly.
After a dry and sunny month of October, Autumn is moving in with its traditional rainy and cold weather. Roads are getting slippery and daylight is fading rapidly. To avoid accidents, and keep control of your car firmly on the road, it's time think seriously about changing your tyres for the winter months.
In Luxembourg, winter tyres are not mandatory, drivers are however required to equip their car with 4 identical tyres. It is forbidden, for example, to put tyres of different types or characteristics on the same vehicle. The combination of winter and summer tyres is therefore prohibited, i.e. winter on the front, summer on the back is a big “no no” for the Luxembourg authorities.
We are going to stick our neck out at Station.lu and stay that this is actually a pity really for two reasons: 1 – If you speak to a tyre specialist, having 2 winter tyres and 2 summer tyres is actually safer than keeping your 4 summer tyres, however no specialist will go on record stating this. 2 – The cost of buying
4 winter tyres means that it puts many people off changing their tyres at all. The result is less people change their tyres during winter than should.
Even if changing to winter tyre is not mandatory, it is still strongly recommended to make the switch for winter, especially once the temperature drops below
7° C. This enables vehicles to grip the road better and reduces the risk of skidding.
