Three pedestrians run down
3 cases of pedestrians being run down in Luxembourg were reported yesterday.
The first accident occured around 7 :30pm on the Bonnevoie Rocade near the pedestrian bridge that links the station to Bonnevoie. A witness to the accident was about to turn into the rue de Bonnevoie and was almost at a standstill when she noticed a dark-clad man crossing the street about 1 metre after the pedestrian crossing. The traffic lights were red for pedestrians and green for vehicles. The car that was behind her had not noticed the man and continued straight on, hitting the victim. The pedestrian, who was seriously injured, was taken to hospital.
Another accident occured around the same time in Bereldange where a woman wished to cross the rue Renert at a pedestrian crossing. The first car that came from Bridel stopped but a car coming from the opposite direction did not notice the pedestrian and knocked her over. The victim was injured and taken to the hospital.
The third accident happened in Esch/Alzette around 8 :30pm. According to the initial investigation, a driver ignored the red light at a pedestrian crossing where a couple was crossing the street. The man managed to avoid the vehicle that hit his 60 year-old partner. The woman suffered serious injuries in the collision and was taken to hospital. Alcohol inake was not established but the prosecutor ordered the car to be impounded and searched.
