This year, the International Bazaar, will open its doors on Saturday 28 November from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. and on Sunday 29 November from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the LuxExpo in Kirchberg. All the stands offer the very best of their national products, which not only makes for an ideal Christmas shopping opportunity, but offers a feast of culinary delights in the process.

Last year, an estimated 25,000 visitors attended the Bazaar. The proceeds of this year’s Bazaar will be donated to 108 charities in around 60 countries, mostly in Africa, Latin America and Asia.

With this year’s 49th edition of the International Bazaar comes a new President, Marie-Hélène Ehrke who has an extensive background working with various international charities, including Cancer Research and a local homeless organisation.

To celebrate the football World Cup 2010 that will be held in South Africa, the country's stand will welcome a special guest. Zakumi, the colourful mascot 'with attitude' will be present at the South African stand during this year's International Bazaar.

The name ‘Zakumi' is a composition of ‘ZA' standing for South Africa and ‘kumi', which translates into ‘10' in various languages across Africa. Zakumi symbolises South Africa and the rest of the African continent through his self-confidence, pride, hospitality, social skills and warm-heartedness.

David Micallef, Managing Director at The Bank of New York Mellon, is delighted to have secured such a high-profile and sought after guest such as Zakumi, and his presence will certainly be full of energy at the popular cultural event.
